The next edition of the IOPD International Conference will take place in Iztapalapa (Mexico) on December 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2019. This edition of the Conference will be held under the theme “Participatory Cities with Full Rights: Participatory Democracy and Human Rights” and will be organized by the OIDP Secretariat and the Municipality of Iztapalapa with the support of the City of Mexico and our Committee.
Iztapalapa was a district of Mexico City up until 2018, when it became an independent municipality. At present, the city is looking forward to debate and share with local actors from all over the world various pressing challenges related to urbanization and the quest for achieving a full development of democracy at the local level.
Due to the centrality of the right to the city and human rights in its discussions, the UCLG CSIPDHR Committee actively invites its members to participate in Iztapalapa’s conference. Such event will be a good opportunity to address issues such as the development of urban rights, commons or local citizenship by locally promoting participatory democracy.
The conference will offer multiple modalities of participation: thematic debates, spaces for policy exchange, meetings within the districts of Iztapalapa with local associations and inhabitants. The concept note of the event is already available. More information on the program and how to participate is also available on the Conference website.
