HUMAN RIGHTS AND FEMINIST MUNICIPAL MOVEMENT A THE HEART OF ACTION
Over the last months, local and regional governments have taken a strong stand in favour of human rights during situations of conflict, championed the need for a global municipal feminist movement and have been very active on key issues for the future of our planet, such as the transformation of food systems or the need to reshape local finance and vaccine equity for a safe and equitable recovery.

In our newsletter, you will find some of our key milestones: our plea to protect human rights, welcome refugees, and deliver humanitarian aid in Afghanistan, as well as our commitments towards generation equality and how UCLG is placing gender equality in the spotlight.

And as we get ready for the second half of the year you will find a sneak peak of what is to come, the UCLG Culture Summit, and our participation in the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly.
The World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), gathering over 240.000 member worldwide expresses its deep concern about the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and the impact on the human rights and livelihoods of its people, in particular women and girls that might be again deprived from the most basic rights including, movement, work and education. This document is an invitation to travel together along a path of democratic construction, towards a Feminist Municipal Movement, from which to achieve the effective recognition of the rights of women and diverse groups already enshrined in multiple international human rights instruments.

UCLG TV
Municipalism around the world is leading the transformation  Our cities and territories will never be the same.  We have come to understand that public service delivery is critical for societies to protect themselves. Local and regional governments put care at the center of their efforts.

Human mobility is a natural phenomenon that enriches, renews and transforms our societies. Border-centered and discriminatory discourses are a construct. Facing divisive and fearful approaches, local and regional governments have been welcoming new neighbours despite lacking mandates, resources and capacities.

Culture is the antidote for the secondary effects of the current, and all, crises. Cities and territories around the world are cradles of culture, heritage, diversity, knowledge and innovation. Culture makes people feel, dream, and create Culture makes cities thrive.
