The inaugural ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow-up was held from 18 to 20 April 2016 in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Forum included the Special high-level meeting of the Council with the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
The theme of the Forum was “Financing for sustainable development: follow-up to the Addis Ababa Action Agenda.” According to its mandate, the Forum addressed the follow-up and review of the Financing for Development outcomes and the means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
UCLG Committee on Local Finance for Development could attend, in the framework of its participation in the Business Steering Committee for Financing for Development, key roundtables on "Domestic and international public resources", "Data, monitoring and follow-up", in line with precious involvment in the Addis Ababa Summit in July 2015. The Secretary Executive of the Committee could speak during roundtable E on "Trade, science, technology, innovation and capacity-building" (see video here, from 1:26:00 to 1:30:00).
Nathalie Le Denmat from the Committee also participated in a side-event of FMDV-Global IDF on "Defining a Global Partnership for Localizing Finance of Inclusive & Sustainable Development: Country Implementation & Financing Frameworks that Deliver Results",
The day after the Forum, on 21 April, a special Policy Room on cities took place: “Winning the battle of sustainable development: Local authorities and partnerships for the New Urban Agenda”, to discuss the role of local authorities and stakeholders in the effective implementation of Habitat III outcomes
