The mayors of 20 European cities have signed a letter published in le Monde on Wednesday 25 March 2016, criticizing the European Union for allowing a loophole in diesel cars’ pollution limits.

The signatories include the mayors of Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Copenhagen, Oslo, Lisbon, Stockholm, Vienna, Warsaw, Athens, Amsterdam between others, many of whom are campaigning through social media in order to reach more signatories.

This letter follows the commitment reached at the COP 21 by representatives of cities, regions and local governments from around the world with the Paris City Hall Declaration. The document signed at the Paris City Hall recognized that “local and regional leaders have an increasingly important role to play in charting the course to a low carbon future” and reaffirms the commitment of city and regional leaders to act to tackle climate disruption.
