A l'occasion de la journée mondiale de l’Habitat, CGLU lance une campagne de sensibilisation par selfie en faveur de l’adoption de l’objectif de développement durable urbain (#urbanSDG), campagne qui sera célébrée le 31 octobre à l’occasion de la première Journée Mondiale des Villes (#WorldCitiesDay). CGLU invite ses membres à y participer massivement.
A l'occasion de la célébration de la première journée mondiale des Villes (#WorldCitiesDay) le 31 octobre, qui marque la fin de l’octobre urbain, CGLU invite ses membres et partenaires à se mobiliser et à faire connaître le potentiel de transformation de l'urbanisation.
According to the United Nations World Health Organization, over half of the world’s population now lives in cities and this figure will continue to grow, especially in less developed regions. Therefore, delivering safe water and sanitation in cities will be key to securing sustainability for human, economic and environmental prosperity in the future.
Le 17 octobre 2014, le monde entier célèbrera la journée internationale pour l'élimination de la pauvreté sous le thème: « Ne laisser personne de côté : réfléchir, décider et agir ensemble contre la misère. »
La première rencontre des Maires sur la Migration, la Mobilité et le Développement qui a eu lieu à Barcelone les 19 et 20 juin, a mis en exergue le phénomène des migrations dans les zones urbaines et transfrontalières.
Le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies, Ban Ki-moon, a annoncé le 8 Août les noms des membres du Groupe consultatif de haut niveau sur le transport durable qui sera chargé de fournir des recommandations sur cette question aux niveaux mondial, national, local et sectoriel.

À Hyderabad, le XIe Congrès mondial de METROPOLIS, « Des villes pour tous », a rassemblé il y a environ trois semaines plus de 1 800 décideurs urbains, dirigeants gouvernementaux, gestionnaires urbains, urbanistes, experts en gestion urbaine, représentants d’ONG internationales, universitaires et représentants de sociétés publiques et privées de services urbains pour débattre du rôle des grandes métropoles.

I am delighted that Wiley Blackwell will publish my book about London’s last 25 years in December 2014. Cities are a compelling phenomenon of the current era. The age of globalisation is also an age of globalising cities but the science of cities is only slowly emerging; there is limited understanding of how and why some cities succeed and others fail.
Can an award system for distinctive city innovations go beyond capturing headlines for winners? Can it develop into an ongoing system of learning for cities around the world, inspiring new ways for them to deal with tough social, economic and environmental challenges?
In the following post, Pablo Chillón shares the results of his recent investigations into the attributes and characteristics of the lobby strategies developed by cities and the goals of city advocacy, as well as the extent of and insights into the global performance of true urban diplomacy by cities.
For the first time ever, the United Nations has declared 31 October ''World Cities Day'', recognising and highlighting the critical role that cities and smart urban planning have to play in sustainable development. To coincide with World Cities Day, UN Habitat and the Guardian also put out a call for the best existing urban ideas.
