The 2014 Biodiversity Summit for Cities and Subnational Governments (12-14 October), which will be held in support of, and in parallel with, the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The 2014 Biodiversity Summit is convened in partnership between ICLEI — local Governments for Sustainability, the Secretariat of the CBD, and host, the Provincial Government of Gangwon. As an active player in the field of biodiversity and sustainable development, we are honoured to invite you to attend this prestigious event.
The theme for the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity is “Biodiversity for Sustainable Development” and, accordingly, the Biodiversity Summit for Cities and Subnational Governments will highlight the invaluable contribution of cities and subnational governments towards greener national economies and improved quality of life across nations. The 2014 Biodiversity Summit will focus on bringing together representatives from all levels of government, to provide a platform for dialogue and to strengthen multi-level cooperation, with a view to multiply the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 201 1-2020 and the achievement of its Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
