United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) join C40 Cities and the International Transport Workers’ Federation in The Future is Public Transport Campaign to ensure that public transport is safeguarded and strengthened in the recovery from COVID-19 and that financing is secured to ensure mass transit and local service provision can continue to work towards fostering solidarity and protecting people and the planet through access to services and sustainable modes of transport.
"The crises stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted who and what we were leaving behind and have brought to the fore the vital role that public service provision plays in the protection of people and the planet. Public transport is an integral part of these services and has worked non-stop during the crisis ensuring that all people have access to essential services and access to opportunity." Emilia Saiz, Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments
“Citizens, cities and the planet will be better off with more public transport. It improves our lives in so many ways and is the shot in the arm for our economies to fully rebound now and build us back better in the future”. Mohamed Mezghani, UITP Secretary General
