New Mooc on Voluntary Local Reviews is launched!

Based essentially on the Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) guidelines produced by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and UN-Habitat, the VLRs Massive and Open Online Course is organised by UCLG, its Group on Capacity and Institution Building (CIB-UCLG) and in partnership with the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, UN-Habitat, UNDP and the Barcelona Provincial Council.

Through updated and exclusive videos, with infographics, quizzes, practical examples and best practices, this course was designed to provide Local and Regional Governments (LRGs) interested in developing their VLRs with key information and a few directions and recommendations. This will allow them to join the growing group of local authorities that have taken initiative to monitor and report on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The course is divided in following parts:

1.     Introduction

  • Course objectives and learning organization
  • Background

2.     Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs): What are they, what is their process and which institutions support them

3.     Developing a Voluntary Local Review (VLR): Some key points

  • Who is involved in the VLRs?
  • Where is the VLR process located within the larger institutional and policy scheme?
  • What is the composition of the VLR?
  • Which data and indicators are used in the VLR?
  • Exploring the linkages between VLRs and VNRs

4.     Ways Forward: The course offers certification for those who complete all its contents and tasks, is open to everyone, available in English, French and Spanish and has the duration of approximately 2,5 hours of study time - in the form of a self-guided online course - without considering the study time needed for in-depth materials, which will be prioritised and chosen by the persons taking the course according to their particular interests and time available.
