UCLG celebrates Human Rights Day during 1st World Summit of Local Governments for the Right to the City

United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) is celebrating World Human Rights day on the occasion of the First World Summit of Local Governments for the Right to the City, organized by the Committee for Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights. 

The 1st World Summit of Local Governments for the Right to the City is taking place from 10th to 12th December in Saint-Denis (France) and will concentrate on the right to the city, the multipurpose aspect of public urban spaces, the right to housing and social and inclusive economies.  

UCLG recalls that the European Charter for the Safeguarding of Human Rights in the City was approved in 2000 in Saint Denis, has today been signed by over 350 towns and cities. In 2011, United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) adopted the Global Charter-Agenda of Human Rights in the City.  The World Charter-Agenda elaborates a series of recommendations in terms of the right to the city by emphasizing diversity, human rights and gender equality.
