8th Forum of Cities Against Poverty, 20-21 February 2013, Dublin

On 20th and 21st February 2013, Dublin City Council will co-host with UNDP in partnership with UN Women, UNDP and UNITAR and in association with the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the 8th Forum of the World Alliance of Cities Against Poverty (WACAP) at the RDS in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. The forum will examine the role of technology in alleviating the symptoms of urban poverty and in making cities Smart, Safe and Sustainable.

 
With an opening contribution Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, the Forum will examine the role of technology in addressing the challenge of urban poverty and in making cities Smart, Safe and Sustainable.
 
 
Key Topics to be covered during the forum include:
  • Changing mindsets for a changed world: priorities and necessities with Michelle Bachelet, Executive Director, UN Women, Tom Arnold, CEO, Concern Worldwide and Mary Robinson, Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice
  • Where does technology fit in the fight against poverty with Vinay Venkatraman, Designer and Co-founder of the Copenhagen Institute for Interaction Design
  • Business to city collaboration with Sally Fegan-Wyles, Executive Director, UNITAR and Simon Giles, Director, Intelligent Cities Strategy, Accenture

City Mayors and other key decision makers, urban planners, civil society representatives and leaders at the forefront of technology and innovation from more than 30 countries will be in attendance and a range of versatile learnshops, panel discussions and networking events will highlight practices, products, tools and on the ground experience in developing smart, safe and sustainable cities of the global South and North.
