With an estimated 90 percent of all reported cases taking place in cities, urban areas are the epicenter of the pandemic. The UN Secretary General Policy Brief: COVID-19 in an Urban World argues that there is an urgent need to rethink and transform cities to respond to the reality of COVID-19 and potential future pandemics, and to recover better, by building more resilient, inclusive and sustainable cities. Around 60 cities join the 2020 Regional Consultations of the Global Forum for Migration and Development (GFMD)

In preparation for the GFMD Summit in 2021, UCLG regional sections actively participated across the six regional consultations on protection, labour migration and skills, held between May and July by the UAE Chairmanship of the GFMD. For the first time, the GFMD integrates a regional perspective into the proceedings, in line with the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) process. The multi-stakeholder nature of this state-led discussion on migration has been reinforced with the launching of the Working Groups on COVID-19 and on Migration Narratives, the latter co-chaired by the Mayors' Mechanism and Canada (+)
UNICEF launches a toolkit for local responses to protect displaced children in COVID-19

Last 20 October, UCLG Forum of Regions, under the presidency of the Consortium of Provincial Autonomous Governments of Ecuador (CONGOPE), and in collaboration with the government of Catalonia, organized the online side-event ‘Regions implementing the Urban Agenda in the post-COVID-19: building a Green Aftermath’, as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities. UCLG launches its first Massive and Open Online Course about the LLE #BeyondTheOutbreak

UCLG launches this thursday, October 15th, its first Massive and Open Online Course (MOOC), based on the 17 Live Learning Experiences (LLE) #BeyondTheOutbreak, organized with UN-Habitat and Metropolis. The LLEs included more than 268 speakers of 97 cities/regions of 50 countries, and highlighted the importance of the local public service delivery during and beyond the pandemics. (+)

Localizing SDGs - 22/07/2020
The world organization United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the Barcelona Provincial Council, through the Observatory for Decentralized Cooperation and UCLG Learning, are launching an online training under the name "Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Tools for Local Transformation".
