October 13 is the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, an agenda that sadly gained global prominence in the last two years due to the pandemic and its cascading effects. Building on the practical experience of its membership and partners, UCLG has gone beyond a campaign, training the network to develop DRR and resilience strategies in practice, through peer-learning and playful methodologies.

UCLG, Metropolis and LSE Cities just launched the fourth Policy Brief of their joint Emergency Governance Initiative. In this occasion, the focus is placed on multilevel governance and cooperation between different tiers of government during complex emergencies such as COVID-19, climate change and social crises. Putting forward key principles for the governance of increasingly recurrent and complex emergencies, the Policy Brief proposes concrete recommendations based on direct engagement with LRG representatives and international partners.

VLR, Learning Agenda - 20/01/2023
Based essentially on the Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) guidelines produced by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and UN-Habitat, the VLRs Massive and Open Online Course is organised by UCLG, its Group on Capacity and Institution Building (CIB-UCLG) and in partnership with the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, UN-Habitat, UNDP and the Barcelona Provincial Council.
